Self-Reflection/Study
“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” / Aristotle
- Read Book 1 of “The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali” by Sri Swami Satchidananda. Pay close attention to sutras 1,2,3, and 12.
- Read the 8 Universals Principals and Principals of Alignment in “Journey Into Power” by Baron Baptiste
- Prepare, then record yourself teaching and executing, and then upload your video for the ENGAGE series. (Read the below video instructions carefully before you start!) Make sure you state your name clearly at the beginning of the video. Please face the camera when taping your video. Please avoid side facing as your students always want to see your smiling face.
- Explore and prepare your music for your video of the ENGAGE series. Use music for all of your video submissions. This should help to create your flow of the Engage series. Give yourself some time to feel comfortable videotaping yourself and practice. This is your first attempt so be patient – PARIKSAHA. In addition, when facing the camera and recording, please mirror the hand that you ask the viewer to move by moving your opposite hand.
- Be sure to journal and find 10 minutes to meditate each day.
- Correction Note: In the video discussing the latissimus dorsi muscles, in the anatomy of the poses, please note that what should have been stated was that the word “dorsi” derives from Latin and means “back”. The back of our body. We have two latissimus dorsi, one on each side of our back.
After you submit your video, please note that Chapter 2 will not open until after you receive feedback, on your submission, from our team. If you do not hear back from us within 48 hours for this chapter, or any other chapter, please reach out hello@drishtibeats.com.
How to record your first video
First, let’s make sure you are recording with the right settings for a great result and faster upload.
- Formats is set to High Efficiency
- Record Video is set to 720p HD at 30fps (on an iPhone) or the smallest format/file size your smartphone can capture
- Turn off HDR Video on an iPhone
This will speed up the upload process after you’re done. Always use the rear camera and make sure the camera is facing you directly. We would like to see you teaching to the “Invisible Student” behind the camera. So speak to the camera in your natural voice as if it’s your student. Go for as many takes as you feel you need, as practice does make perfect. Be sure the frame is wide and open enough so we can see all of you.
What music should I use in my video?
Our house band, musicians, and guest artists are all about exploring the symbiotic relationship between yoga and music, stimulating your mind & body, and creating a heightened sense of awareness. Here’s a suggested playlist on your music streaming service of choice:
*Spotify account is required.
*Apple Music subscription is required.
